April 2025, Issue 04

Dear BSBMTCT member,

We hope that everyone is well and enjoying the brighter days and sunshine!

In last month’s Bulletin, we were all gearing up for the 51st Annual Meeting of the EBMT in Florence. What a great conference it was in such a beautiful and historic city. We look forward to receiving reports from those that we were able to fund this year. EBMT have announced that the 52nd Annual Meeting will be in Madrid in 2026. We will be communicating in due course where funding may be available for EBMT Congress next year.

Nominations for our 2nd Co-Chair of the Clinical Trials Sub Committee (CTSC) are out and closes at midnight Wednesday 30th April. Please submit your application forms to julia.lee@kcl.ac.uk. We will also be shortly announcing the next CTSC meeting date in the Spring.

Invoices for the 2025 BSBMTCT Subscription have been sent this week to all centres, with  prices this year remaining unchanged. Thank you for all your support to allow the work of our society and registry to continue.

We wanted to highlight that EBMT are looking for feedback regarding their most recent EBMT Clinical Outcome Report from the Benchmarking Programme. The benchmarking group is re-establishing with input from EBMT Registry Committee which BSBMTCT has a seat. The group is looking for feedback not only regarding discrepancies, but also any suggestions and ideas to improve the reports. Please submit feedback via https://forms.gle/8JZqoP8bxQSyCzdZ9

On the 24th April, the BSBMTCT participated in the UK Stem Cell Strategic Forum Data Commission Meeting. The objectives of this forum were to discuss with all the key stakeholders how we work together to create a data ecosystem for transplant and cellular therapies that is fit for the future. The sessions were extremely lively and productive, with enthusiasm expressed to work together to deliver what is best for our patients. We also had the absolute privilege and honour of being in the presence of one of the co-founders of the BSBMT as it was known then, Professor Anthony Goldstone. Professor Goldstone co-founded the BSBMT alongside Professor John Goldman in the late 1990s and were also its first presidents.

Another great meeting that was well attended was the British Society for Haematology (BSH) Annual Scientific Meeting which was held in Glasgow between the 27-29th April. Professor Eduardo Olavarria and Dr Victoria Potter, both BSBMTCT Trustees helped to organise an excellent session on transplant on behalf of the BSBMTCT. The talks given were “Best practice for long-term follow up and screening of patients post stem cell transplant” by Dr Fiona Dignan, “Transplant-decision-making in High Risk MDS” by Dr Pramila Krishnamurthy and “Ethnicity and SCT” by Dr Neema Mayor. It was an extremely successfully session which we hope will be continued in the next BSH Annual Scientific Meeting next year.

It’s not too late to register for our upcoming event: BSBMTCT Scientific Day – on Wednesday 21st May – Hybrid Event from the Cavendish Conference Centre, 22 Duchess Mews, London W1G 9DT. Registration details: https://bsbmtct.org/events/bsbmtct-scientific-day/
