Dear BSBMTCT member,
We are grateful that the sun has made an appearance at last, boosting our vitamin D levels. We hope that you’ve been able to enjoy some of this whilst playing your unique part in your centres vital work. There is something so therapeutic about the brighter and longer days. We are already at the end of April 2026 and we at the BSBMTCT headquarters are busy working behind the scenes to ensuring our community are well served, both now and into the future.
BSBMTCT Chief Executive
Last month we shared that we were about to commence the recruitment and selection process to appoint to our permanent Chief Executive position within the BSBMTCT. This a key role for BSBMTCT as we seek to modernise and transition to an executive led organisation operationally. We had some very strong applicants and were delighted that so many people were interested in working with and leading the BSBMTCT as we continue to deliver our 5-year Strategic Plan (2025 – 2030). We shortlisted a strong field and interviews have now been completed as of last Friday. We are delighted to share that we have offered the role to one of the applicants and will be in a position to share further news once the pre-employment checks are complete. We want to take this opportunity to show our deep gratitude and thanks to David Reynolds who commenced work as a Charity Consultant in May 2021 and became Interim CEO in November 2024 to help to lay the foundations for our development. As Interim CEO he has shown incredible drive, passion and dedication to getting us to where we are today, which is a more modernised and stronger charity, society and registry. Thank you, David!
BSBMTCT Scientific Day 2026
Our annual Scientific Day is fast approaching on the Wednesday 6th May. It promises to be an excellent day with some fantastic speakers lined up. We will also be hearing about the latest clinical and basis science projects during the John Goldman Abstract Prize Competition. If you haven’t done so already, it’s not too late to register to attend in person or watch a live stream.

BSBMTCT Bespoke Registry Update
You may be aware that we have been working with Anthony Nolan, through the UK Stem Cell Strategic Forum Data Commissioners’ Beki James and Tom Coates, to develop a business case for a new automated UK-led and bespoke data registry and ecosystem for the UK and Republic of Ireland that connects and enhances key patient outcome data sources. Integrating clinical, demographic, supply chain and patient reported data, including PROMs and PREMs, we hope will move us from fragmented, retrospective reporting to timely, accessible, whole-pathway insight from pre-to post transplant, including quality of life. Developing this through a secure data environment with linkage to MyeCare, EBMT, the DHSC and other UK registries will better support decisions across clinical care, research, trials, commissioning and policy, whilst achieving sustainable income from industry. We have an opportunity to connect and enhances these data sets into something far more powerful for the community, making insight accessible to all who would benefit from it. Our recent focus has been on identifying partners and the investment required. We are very encouraged by the levels of engagement and interest shown to date and we are working this up with each partner. This is a real opportunity for the community to become the integrator and steward of early real-world evidence. If you would like to discuss this opportunity and any other issues relating to this work, please get in contact with David and Julia on David.Reynolds@bsbmtct.org and Julia.Lee@kcl.ac.uk
