December 2025, Issue 12

Dear BSBMTCT member,

As we approach the end of a quite remarkable year, we want to take a moment to thank each of you for your commitment, expertise and generosity. Our Society exists to improve patient outcomes – both survival and quality of life – by advancing the fields of blood and marrow transplantation and cellular therapy — and none of what has been achieved would be possible without your involvement. Thank You!

A year of progress and collaboration

 2025 has been the first full year of our Strategic Plan (2025 – 2030), and we have worked to lay the foundations for our future work together, exploring how we can better fulfil our purpose and do and provide more to meet members’ needs. We have sought to be truly collegiate and have taken a more strategic and proactive approach to the forging of mutually beneficial alliances that will further enhance our impact and the Society’s ability to fulfil its purpose into the future. We were thrilled to launch our strategic partnership with Anthony Nolan, working together to:

  • Improve patient outcomes and experience;
  • Strengthen the UK’s ecosystem for transplantation and cell therapies;
  • Enable more effective collection, analysis and use of data;
  • Support joint fundraising, advocacy, and research activities;
  • Enhance the long-term sustainability and organisational resilience of both Parties.

Together Anthony Nolan and BSBMTCT have been working up a number of domains for collaboration which include:

  • Registry and data development
  • Research Enablement
  • Education and training
  • Policy, Advocacy, and Influencing
  • Commercial and Business Development
  • Operational support

UK Stem cell Strategic Forum (UKSCSF) Data Commission

 We have worked proactively with the UKSCSF Data Commissioners and Anthony Nolan to agree how we explore the development a bespoke UK transplant and cell therapy registry – with greater breadth and granularity of data. We believe we need high-quality HSCT and cell-based ATMP datasets to improve outcomes and drive innovation enabling:

  • Real-time identification of clinical improvements – that enhance patient outcomes, experience and quality of life
  • R&D investment from the global Life Sciences sector

Working with partners, we hope during 2026 to develop a comprehensive and stakeholder-informed Registry Proposition and Business Case, incorporating a:

  • Vision and value proposition.
  • Detailed requirements specification.
  • Implementation roadmap.
  • Investment case with costs and benefits.
  • Governance and delivery model recommendations.

Income diversification and growth

During the year the Trustees developed a Pricing Policy guiding the process of data sharing with commercial partners. We are pleased to have now worked with three pharma partners to provide them with aggregated data. This has contributed to a growth in our income which we hope will enable the Society over time to increase our capacity and membership services.

We look forward to working with new partners in 2026.

Other highlights of 2025

 Other highlights of this last year include:

  • The successful delivery of our Education and Scientific Days, and our Advanced Cellular Therapy showcase. Our annual events brought together members from across the UK and Republic of Ireland, showcasing research from national and international thought leaders. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and planning for next year is already underway.
  • Our 8th year of delivering our popular and well attended Data Management training day, providing:
    • updates from both BSBMTCT and EBMT;
    • training and tips on the EBMT registry;
    • world leading clinical input

This annually event supports data and quality management staff from across UK and Republic of Ireland.
