January 2022 Issue 1

Dear BSBMTCT member,

Belated Happy New Year! Hopefully the improvement in statistics associated with the omicron variant will mean a more straightforward year, but we are sure that all of you will be working cautiously whilst supporting each other in this challenging environment where positive and negative changes impact on our clinical practice over the space of a few weeks.

Bring in the new!

From January 2022, we welcome new members onto our Executive Committee. More details on members can be found via the link https://bsbmtct.org/executive-committee/ The new appointments will bring focus on important areas in our speciality; workforce, quality management, updating indications and guidelines, as well as further developments in cellular therapies and links with affiliated organisations.

We have some upcoming meetings:

  • BSBMTCT Scientific Day – Wednesday 11th May 2022 – because of logistics with booking the event, this will remain as a fully virtual event, registration and programme details to follow
  • BSBMTCT Clinical Trials Sub-committee Meeting – Monday 16th May 2022 – 11-3pm – this will also be a fully virtual event, save the dates and agenda to follow. Please feel free to contact lee@kcl.ac.uk if you have ideas for new registry studies
  • We are planning a hybrid BSBMTCT Educational Day in early November (date TBC), which we hope will enable many of us to get together in person, whilst others can connect in remotely.

Commissioners’ report

Just a reminder that the 13th Commissioners report preparation is underway, we will be looking at transplants performed between 2016 and 2020 as well as all CAR-T data. Please ensure that all registrations and follow ups are updated by Friday 1st April 2022 to be included in the report, which includes a detailed national summary of activity and outcomes and individual centre benchmarking reports to be made available in late summer to members that have paid their annual subscription.

COVID-19

Our very best wishes. We wish you all a very healthy 2022!

John Snowden, Kim Orchard, Fiona Dignan, Deborah Richardson, Eduardo Olavarria, & Julia Lee
