June 2025, Issue 06

Dear BSBMTCT member,

We hope that everyone is well and keeping cool while we continue to enjoy the glorious sunshine.

On Wednesday 25th June, we had our Scientific Showcase: Advanced Cellular Therapy meeting that was organised by our Chair of ACT Sub Committee, Dr Sara Ghorashian. It was a fantastic meeting, and we are very grateful to Sara, all our speakers and our sponsors of the event for making this happen.

On the 1st July we hold our first BSBMTCT CTSC Meeting of 2025 with our two brand new co-chairs, Dr Pramila Krishnamurthy and Dr Anjum Khan. We made a call for new proposals, and we are very excited to hear about all the new studies coming our way. Did you know that the CTSC was the first Sub Committee (SC) of the BSBMTCT, and it remains one of the busiest of the SC which works extremely closely with the registry team. There have been many publications that have come from the work on the CTSC https://bsbmtct.org/publications/ , some of our most recent 2025 publications include:

  • Autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for multiple sclerosis in the UK: A 20-year retrospective analysis of activity and haematological outcomes from the British Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (BSBMTCT) https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/bjh.20199 (Free article)
  • Hematopoietic Stem Cell (HSC) Graft Cryopreservation Effects on Outcomes of Patients with Hematologic Malignancies: the Multicenter United Kingdom Experience During the COVID-19 Pandemic https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40204072/

We are also working in partnership with the Anthony Nolan through the CTSC and here are some updates from those projects:

  • Patient/Donor project – going since 1996, this project aims to recruit patients and their unrelated donors to identify novel genetic and clinical characteristics that are associated with the lowest risk of complications post-HCT.
  • Research Data Manager project – this pilot project started in 2021 as a pilot with the aim to evaluate how additional, on-the-ground data management support could improve access to outcome data for anyone wishing to undertake research studies.

We would like to announce our next CTSC meeting which will be on the Tuesday 18th November 11-3pm via MS Teams. For more information about the group please visit our webpage: https://bsbmtct.org/ctc-clinical-trials-committee/

The end of June marks the deadline for the submissions for the 16th Edition of BSBMTCT Executive Summary of Transplant & Cellular Therapy Outcomes in UK and ROI.

Thank you everyone for your hard work in getting all your submissions in.

We will communicate over the next few months regarding report availability. Please contact Julia Lee at julia.lee@kcl.ac.uk if you have any queries.

Thank you all for helping with the payment of the invoices for the 2025 BSBMTCT Subscription.
