Dear BSBMTCT member,
This weekend marks the beginning of the 51st Annual Meeting of the EBMT in Florence (30th March to 2nd April 2025), an incredible opportunity for all those within the field to listen, connect and experience advanced scientific progress within the field of transplantation and cellular therapy. A great opportunity for networking and the development of long-lasting collaborations and partnerships. For those that are joining we wish you a fantastic and productive congress!
In relation to our Strategic Plan, we have been meeting with prospective partner organisations to explore whether there is the potential to achieve more by working more closely together. From our early discussions, we believe that there definitely is. We have met with Anthony Nolan, NHSBT, ACT/DiDACT, Blood Cancer UK, DKMS, Leukaemia UK, Myeloma UK, the National Black, Asian, Mixed Race and Minority Ethnic Transplant Alliance, Leukaemia Care and a specialist supplier of clinical databases. These talks are in the early stages but are progressing well and we look forward to reporting our progress to you regularly as we seek to establish an understanding of the potential domains of collaboration and the governance required to ensure effective partnership working.
We have just announced the results of our recent voting process for two vacancies within the BSBMTCT Executive Committee. Congratulations to both Rachel Protheroe, our new Chair of the Indications Sub Committee and Pramila Krishnamurthy our first Co-Chair of the Clinical Trials Sub Committee. We wish them every success in their new roles.
We are also now looking for our 2nd Co-Chair of the Clinical Trials Sub Committee and nominations have just opened for applications. Deadline closes at midnight Wednesday 30th April. Please send your application forms to julia.lee@kcl.ac.uk
The NHP (national haemoglobinopathy panel) has a CGT (cell and gene therapy sub-group). Originally focussed on allogeneic stem cell transplant the remit has now expanded to discussions of gene therapy. The aim of the group is to produce consensus protocols and discuss experience. The group is keen to be inclusive and would like to extend an invite to all interested clinicians to attend. Please contact U’mau (gstt.haemoglobinpanel@nhs.net) if you want to be invited.
We would like to highlight our upcoming event: BSBMTCT Scientific Day – on Wednesday 21st May – Hybrid Event from the Cavendish Conference Centre, 22 Duchess Mews, London W1G 9DT. Full programme and registration now available: https://bsbmtct.org/events/bsbmtct-scientific-day/ We hope to see as many of you there.
