March 2026, Issue 03

Dear BSBMTCT member,

We hope you are well! We hope that you have had a good and productive month. We would also like to take this opportunity to wish you all a lovely Easter.

EBMT Congress 2026

Many of us will have just returned from the annual EBMT Congress that was held in sunny Madrid between the 22 – 25th March 2026. It was great to see many friends and colleagues, face to face for a catch up and to share news. It is a great place to network and make new friendships and contacts, for the sharing of ideas and best practice. We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to Sanofi for grant funding the attendance of 4 BSBMTCT staff at EBMT 2026. This year we really missed those that could not travel and be there in person for numerous reasons. We were delighted to meet and talk to some of those that we have given grants to this year; we very much look forward to hearing all about your congress when you submit your reports. EBMT 2027 will be held in Rotterdam, and we are talking to a number of commercial partners to see if we can increase the support that we provide so more members can access the many benefits of attendance.

BSBMTCT Chief Executive

We are delighted to share that the advert for our permanent Chief Executive position is now live. This permanent appointment forms a very important part of our Strategic Plan and future development. We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to Anthony Nolan who are contributing financially towards the cost of this important role. The deadline for applications is the 12th April 2026, with interviews being held on the 24th April 2026. Watch this space for further news.

Thank you for all your questions and queries which will help us improve and shape our next report coming out later this year. The timelines for the 17th Edition (2026) have now been announced:

Thank you to you all. We are particularly thankful for the hard work and dedication of data management staff in our member centres for all their hard work in getting the data into the registry.

 BSBMTCT Partnership Update

One of the enablers within our Strategic Plan is the development of mutually beneficial partnerships. We have established a strong and productive strategic partnership with Anthony Nolan and we are working now to prioritise our Joint Planning Framework and will hold our first Partnership Council meeting shortly. We are delighted to announce that we are near to agreeing an important partnership with Sanofi. We met recently with NHS Commissioners in Wales and in April are meeting with NHSBT to explore how we can add value to each other’s work. Many other early-stage discussions with potential partners are progressing well. These will all strengthen our capacity and capability to be able to do more for our members and support more studies.

 BSBMTCT Pin Badges

We wanted to personally thank Ben Charles, Managing Director of Biovault Technical Ltd https://www.biovaulttechnical.co.uk/. Ben very kindly funded the production of our very first BSBMTCT pin badges. There are two different types, one for all members and a gold version for current and previous BSBMTCT staff and Executive Committee members.

We are absolutely delighted with them and have already given some out to members at EBMT Congress who have worn them proudly. We will be giving them out during our upcoming BSBMTCT Scientific and Education days.

BSBMTCT Membership Invoices 2026

We wrote this month to Transplant Directors to communicate that the Society will be applying a 10% uplift to centre membership fees from April 2026. You may recall that we didn’t increase fees last year, but rising operating costs now make an adjustment necessary. Our two largest areas of expenditure — payroll and the delivery of our three annual educational events — together account for around 95% of our total costs. Annual NHS Agenda for Change pay uplifts are set nationally by Government, informed by the NHS Pay Review Body. Event delivery costs continue to rise in line with inflation and venue pricing.

We remain committed to ensuring that centres receive strong value for money. As members, centres benefit from:
