October 2024, Issue 10

Dear BSBMTCT member,

Hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for darker days and colder nights.

It was lovely to see so many of you at the annual Anthony Nolan Clinical Retreat held in Birmingham on the 17th and 18th October. It was an extra special year celebrating 50 years of Anthony Nolan. We had had a whistle stop tour of the key events from where it began in 1974 when Shirley Nolan started the world’s first stem cell register to save her son’s life by trying to find him a donor, to present day where there has been huge progress and advancements in clinical practice and technologies. However, there is still work to be done and these events give us an opportunity to discuss ideas and talk about how we might try to achieve this. Henny Braund, CEO of Anthony Nolan chaired a hackathon where 4 groups competed on different missions based on “How the new government can make a real difference in cell therapy”. Delighted to share that Group 1 won, photo below. What an amazing event full of great ideas, ambition and determination to save and improve the lives of many. Thank you to all those at Anthony Nolan for hosting an excellent event.

We would like to thank everyone that was involved in the strategic review consultation process. We very much appreciate and value your time and feedback. We have taken it all onboard and have started to draft a 5-year strategic plan which we hope we can share with you all shortly.

The election and nomination process for the New BSBMTCT President Elect and First Chair of BSBMTCT Complications Sub Committee began on the 12th September and nominations closed on Friday 11th October.
