September 2024, Issue 09

Dear BSBMTCT member,

Welcome back to those that have been away for the Summer, we hope you had a lovely and well-earned break. We welcome you all back to what looks to be a busy few months ahead.

Firstly, we kick off with some updates regarding our internal strategic review process. You will remember that we sought and received feedback from 40 stakeholders this year, the majority of whom being members, through face-to-face interviews and a survey, sent directly to all members. We collated all of the feedback, and a report was circulated to all our members. Following on from this, we considered it important that we consult you as members again, seeking to understand whether you agree, or have alternate or additional suggestions. To this end, we advertised two online workshop sessions, one on the Wednesday 25th September at 4pm, and the other on Monday 30th September at 9am via MS Teams. Registration is still open to attend the Monday session if you have missed the other. To register please visit https://bsbmtct.org/bsbmtct-strategic-review-consultation-meeting-registration-3/. We hope to see many of you there. If you cannot make these but would still like to feedback to us, we are happy to offer you a 1-2-1 meeting. Please email Registry Head, Julia Lee at julia.lee@kcl.ac.uk to book a convenient time. You are also able to submit your thoughts by email, again to Julia Lee, by the 4th October 2024. Feedback will be included in our strategic planning process. We are intending to finalise and agree our Strategic Plan this year.

The election and nomination process for the New BSBMTCT President Elect and First Chair of BSBMTCT Complications Sub Committee has officially begun and emails were sent out on the 12th September to all members. Positions are open to all, if you have any questions regarding this please contact Julia Lee, Registry Head on Julia.Lee@kcl.ac.uk

The BSBMTCT public report consultation will end on Friday 27th September, thank you to all those that have sent in your questions and feedback so far. Once we have collated and gone through all the feedback we will be back in touch. We hope that we can get a consensus regarding what we publish and how we do it.

Onto some BSBMTCT Registry news, our 2024 Annual BSBMTCT Executive Summary of Transplant and Cellular Therapy Outcomes in UK_ROI_ A Report for Commissioners_15th_Edn and the individual centre reports will likely now be available before the end of December 2024. There have been significant delays due to issues with migration and lack of confidence with the data presented in the new registry. We are having to use a combination of old ProMISe backups and data extracted from the new registry to ensure the data is accurate and usable. There has been considerable effort between EBMT and BSBMTCT registries to resolve the issues, and we are now in a better position for both organisations to deliver something that is meaningful to the BMT community. These issues have not only affected the UK registry, but every other national registry including the EBMT Benchmarking team who are also having to delay their reports to centres.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Those centres doing CAR-T treatment would have seen emails from EBMT regarding the CAR-T initiative. We understand that the process may not be very clear and there may be questions. We are therefore working together with the EBMT team to hold some EBMT CAR-T initiative training and Q&A sessions to all our UK/ROI centres. We are hoping these will be available over the next month or so. Once we have some dates, we will be sending out registration details.

We would like to remind you of the upcoming events:

Our Very Best Wishes, Eduardo Olavarria, John Snowden, Deborah Richardson, Fiona Dignan, Harpreet Kaur & Julia Lee
