ANALYSIS: MEDA ONLY CENTRES

The survey was sent by email to all DMS within UK member centres that are responsible for completing Med-A/-B forms.

In total 41 responses were received:

  • Med-A only centres: 35 responses from 31 centres
  • Med-B
  • only or combination Med-B and Med-A centres: 6 responses from 6 centres

One of the centre’s listed answered both surveys (Med-A only and the Med-B only or combination Med-B and Med-A survey). Different DMS within different teams (adult Vs Paediatric) completed the surveys. This further identifies that teams within centres complete different types of forms.

If you previously completed Med-B HSCT forms, please specify why this was: (Please enter NA if you never completed Med-B forms previously)

Centre Response:

Previously MEDB forms were completed for selected patients but now they are only done when it is part of an EBMT Study.
Not sure if previous data managers entered MED-B data. Certainly not in the past 10 years.
It was recommended to input Med-B Data
N/A. We currently complete studies but do not do MEDAB in routine situations. We did once do them for the CALM Study.
It is my impression that Med B forms were completed occasionally many years ago, but I would have to investigate to be sure. While I do not currently anticipate needing these data, we may want to refer to them at some point in the future.
Can’t remember the exact reason but decided not to pursue with Med-Bs because of lack of resources and we were falling behind with historical follow up data
N/a – but considering for future auto-immune forms to assist studies
Unknown, if Med-B was previously submitted. Since May 2015 when I came into post, only Med-A only has been submitted.
When the center was much quieter with less activity there was time to allow for extra data collection for the MEDB. However, due to workload it would now be impossible to collect this additional information
Unknown: I have not entered any MED-B HSCT forms for this centre.
Data used to be recorded by clinicians. Also, some of the studies we have participated in required additional data beyond MED-A
Not forms within the database, however I have collected Med-B data in excel format which I understand once provided would have been updated into the PROMISE database.
There was a very limited period of MED B entry a number of years ago – I am unsure as to why.
there will be a small number of MED-B forms for centre 866….these would mostly be due to EBMT studies.

If you previously completed Med-B HSCT forms, please specify why you switched to Med-A HSCT forms: (Please enter NA if you never completed Med-B forms previously)

Centre Response:

 Time constraints.
Unsure if MED-B previously entered
We were understaffed and falling behind with a huge back log
I was told from day 1 to submit Med B forms
We only did MEDB for the CALM study. We don’t do MEDB since there is too much information to complete. We often have more data than is needed for MEDA but not enough for MEDB. Promise and current system don’t allow for part filled forms in easy way.
We are not entering MED B due to limited data management capacity so I assume this is the reason that there were occasional Med B forms in the past but not now
 Time constraint
MED-B too time consuming considering volume of patients, plus not all data is easily available via our systems
MED B forms were too difficult to complete
MED-B forms were only used when there was a study.

Additional Information

The submission of Med-B previously is unknown. Since 2015, only Med-A has been submitted.
GWH are uncertain if our oldest patients used MED-B forms, however if MED-B forms are entered these would require transfer to new database.
